On April 13, 2026, a delegation led by Camila Mendes Vianna Cardoso, Chair of the Brazil-China Relations Committee of the Rio de Janeiro Section of the Brazilian Bar Association, visited the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”). Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC, received the delegation. The two sides held in-depth discussions on deepening practical cooperation between the institutions and improving cross-border commercial dispute resolution services for Chinese enterprises in Brazil.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Wang Chengjie first reviewed the long-standing friendly strategic partnership between China and Brazil. He noted that cooperation between the two countries in the economic and trade fields has continued to deepen, with bilateral trade and investment exchanges becoming increasingly close. Against the backdrop of a complex and evolving international geopolitical landscape, the demand for cross-border commercial dispute resolution continues to grow. Strengthening cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian arbitration and legal service institutions is of great practical significance for protecting the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises from both countries and promoting the high-quality development of bilateral economic and trade relations.Secretary-General Wang stated that CIETAC attaches great importance to cooperation with the Brazilian legal community. In recent years, CIETAC has signed cooperation agreements with several Brazilian arbitral institutions and successfully organized a number of events and thematic exchanges, including the China-Latin America International Arbitration Forum, laying a solid foundation for cooperation. He introduced that, as China’s oldest and most internationalized commercial arbitration institution, CIETAC has accumulated extensive practical experience in cross-border dispute resolution. With its outstanding case management quality and efficiency, as well as its internationalized services, CIETAC has gained broad recognition from the international arbitration community for its credibility and advanced arbitration rules. This, he noted, has laid a strong foundation for CIETAC to deepen cooperation with the Brazilian legal community and serve China-Brazil economic, trade, and investment exchanges.Secretary-General Wang expressed the hope that the visit would serve as an opportunity to further consolidate existing cooperation between China and Brazil, and to jointly provide more efficient, convenient, and professional dispute resolution safeguards for Chinese and Brazilian enterprises.

Chair Camila Mendes Vianna Cardoso expressed her gratitude to CIETAC for its warm reception. She noted that China has become Brazil’s largest trading partner, and that the number of Chinese enterprises in Brazil has steadily increased, with investment areas continuing to expand across many sectors, including energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, and other industries. As China-Brazil economic and trade cooperation continues to deepen, enterprises’ demand for dispute resolution is becoming increasingly urgent. She expressed her expectation to strengthen exchanges with Chinese arbitral institutions and legal professionals, share policy information and practical experience in rules application, and jointly provide diversified dispute resolution service support for Chinese and Brazilian enterprises.

The two sides also exchanged views in depth on China-Brazil economic and trade cooperation and the development trends of arbitration in the two countries, reaching broad consensus. The exchange further strengthened the foundation for cooperation between the Chinese and Brazilian legal and arbitration communities and enhanced mutual trust. Both sides invited each other to participate in arbitration week activities and expressed their expectation to jointly organize events in the future. They also looked forward to working together to promote the arbitration system, improve cooperation mechanisms for dispute resolution, safeguard the steady and long-term development of China-Brazil economic and trade cooperation with high-quality legal services, and contribute to rule-of-law exchanges among BRICS countries and the development of global commercial arbitration.
