On September 14, 2025, the "Capital Law & Arbitration Cup" Young Lawyers' International Arbitration Moot Roadshow (CIETAC Stop), one of the series activities of 2025 China Arbitration Week, was successfully held in Beijing。This event was sponsored by Beijing Lawyers Association, undertaken by the Young Lawyers Working Committee and the Commercial Arbitration Legal Professional Committee of Beijing Lawyers Association, and guided by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission ("CIETAC"). Gu Yan, Vice President of CIETAC Arbitration Court, and Li Zheng, Vice President of Beijing Lawyers Association, delivered speeches respectively, while Zhang Xiaofeng, Director of the Commercial Arbitration Legal Professional Committee of Beijing Lawyers Association, moderated the event.

Vice President Gu Yan expressed his gratitude to Beijing Lawyers Association for its long-term support for the development of the arbitration industry, and extended a welcome to the young lawyers who actively participated in this event. He stated that arbitration is an important part of the national governance system and a key guarantee for high-level opening-up. Arbitration thrives because of commerce and prospers through arbitration. He also highlighted CIETAC's efforts in cultivating young lawyers and arbitration talents from five aspects: orientated by the needs of the parties to expand training coverage, guided by international perspective to enhance cross-border dispute resolution services, adhere to practical standards and increase the appointment of young arbitrators, adhere to coordination and integration to build an interdisciplinary training platform for arbitration and industries, and adhere to inheritance and innovation to consolidate the brand foundation for arbitration talent training. He encouraged young lawyers to strengthen their convictions, lay a solid professional foundation, actively participate in international arbitration practice, and contribute to the high-quality development of China's arbitration practice.

Vice President Li Zheng pointed out that international arbitration is an important criterion for measuring a country's legal environment and business environment, and also a key stage for Chinese lawyers to participate in international competition and showcase their professional image. He emphasized that arbitration moots are an effective way for young lawyers to temper their professional capabilities and broaden their international perspective. Through immersive experience, they can help young lawyers deepen their understanding of international arbitration rules, improve practical operation capabilities, and cultivate international legal thinking and debating skills. He hoped that young lawyers will keep in mind the need of the country, continuously improve their comprehensive qualities, expand their international perspective, and inject new vitality into China's foreign-related legal construction.

In the moot arbitral tribunal session, the arbitral tribunal was composed of Wang Jie (independent arbitrator), Jin Liyu (founding partner/director of Shanghai Wuqi Law Firm), and Chen Jianling (associate professor of University of International Business and Economics Law School); Li Jingjing (lawyer of Beijing Zhong Lun Law Firm) and Sun Qilu (lawyer of V&T LAW FIRM) served as agents for the Claimant; Hu Xiaofeng (lawyer of Beijing Huamao Silicon Valley Law Firm) and Lü Junru (lawyer of Beijing HanKun Law Firm) served as agents for the Respondent. The entire hearing was conducted in English, focusing on core dispute issues such as the validity of the arbitration agreement, contract interpretation, liability for breach of contract, and remedies. It fully restored typical international arbitration procedures such as pre-hearing deliberation, statements and pleadings, presentation and cross-examination of evidence (including witness testimony), arbitral tribunal investigation, and debates. It provided the audience with a high-level full-English moot arbitration hearing demonstration, vividly showing the professionalism and internationalization of arbitration procedures.

 

 

After the moot hearing session, the three arbitrators conducted professional review and comments from aspects such as case analysis, contract interpretation, evidence organization, and hearing strategy. They fully affirmed the excellent performance of the lawyers from both sides and put forward constructive suggestions from a practical perspective.Xing Keke, Chair of Young Lawyers Committee, Beijing Lawyers Association and Wu Shaoxuan, Deputy Director of the General Office Office of CIETAC, made in-depth comments from the perspective of agents and arbitration institutions respectively. The commentators unanimously agreed that this moot hearing was well-organized and content-rich, providing valuable learning and training opportunities for young lawyers.

Su Sa, Deputy Director of the Arbitration Research Institute of CIETAC, and Zhang Xiaofeng, Director of the Commercial Arbitration Professional Committee of Beijing Lawyers Association, presented certificates to the participants and arbitrators of the moot arbitral tribunal。This moot arbitral tribunal attracted nearly 50 on-site guests including arbitrators, lawyers, and scholars, and about 500 person-times watched the live broadcast online.
