On September 14, 2025, the "Capital Lvzhong Cup" Young Lawyers International Arbitration Moot Roadshows (CIETAC Station), as part of the 2025 China Arbitration Week, was successfully convened in Beijing. The event was hosted by the Beijing Lawyers Association (hereinafter referred to as the "BLA"), organized by the BLA's Young Lawyers Working Committee and the BLA's Commercial Arbitration Law Professional Committee, and conducted under the guidance of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (hereinafter referred to as "CIETAC"). Gu Yan, Vice President of the CIETAC Arbitration Court, and Li Zheng, Vice President of the BLA delivered the remarks for the event. Zhang Xiaofeng, Director of the BLA's Commercial Arbitration Law Professional Committee, moderated the event.

Gu Yan expressed his appreciation to the BLA for its long-standing support to the development of the arbitration industry and extended his welcome to the young lawyers actively participating in the event. He stated that arbitration constitutes a vital component of the state governance system and a crucial safeguard for high-standard opening up, noting that "arbitration prospers with commerce and thrives through adjudication." He elaborated on CIETAC's work in cultivating young lawyers and arbitration talents by highlighting five key areas: adhering to a demand-oriented approach to broaden training coverage; maintaining an international perspective to enhance capabilities in cross-border dispute resolution; upholding practical standards to facilitate the appointment of young arbitrators; promoting synergy and integration to build interdisciplinary platforms connecting arbitration and other industries; and persisting in inheritance and innovation to solidify the foundation of arbitration talent development initiatives. He encouraged young lawyers to strengthen their beliefs, consolidate professional expertise, actively engage in international arbitration practice, and contribute to the high-quality development of China's arbitration cause.

Li Zheng emphasized that international arbitration serves as a crucial barometer for measuring a state's rule of law and business environment, as well as a key platform for Chinese lawyers to engage in international competition and demonstrate their professional expertise. He stressed that arbitration moots provide an effective pathway for young lawyers to hone their professional competencies and expand their international perspective. Through immersive experiences, these simulations enable young lawyers to deepen their understanding of international arbitration rules, enhance practical skills, and cultivate international legal mindsets and advocacy techniques. He encouraged young lawyers to embrace the broader national interests, continuously elevate their comprehensive capabilities, broaden their global vision, and inject new vitality into the development of China's foreign-related legal system.

During the mock arbitration session, the tribunal was composed of Wang Jie, independent arbitrator; Jin Liyu, Founding Partner/Managing Director of Shanghai Jin Partners Law Firm; and Chen Jianling, Associate Professor of University of International Business and Economics. The claimant was represented by Li Jingjing, lawyer from Beijing Zhonglun Law Firm and Sun Qilu, lawyer from Beijing V&T Law Firm, while the respondent was represented by Hu Xiaofeng, lawyer from Beijing HUA MAO & GUI GU LAW FIRM and Attorney Lyu Junru, lawyer from Beijing Han Kun Law Offices. The entire proceeding was conducted in English, focusing on key issues such as the validity of the arbitration agreement, contract interpretation, liability for breach of contract, and remedies. The session comprehensively replicated standard international arbitration procedures, including pre-hearing deliberations, statements and defenses, evidence presentation and cross-examination (including witness testifying), tribunal inquiry, and argument. This provided attendees with a high-level, fully English-language mock arbitration demonstration, vividly illustrating the professional and international characteristics of arbitration proceedings.

Following the conclusion of the mock arbitration hearing, the three arbitrators gave a professional recap of the proceedings and commented on the analysis of strategy, contract interpretation, evidence re-organization, and hearing tactics. They fully acknowledged the outstanding performance of counsels from both sides while offering pertinent advice from a practical perspective. Additional insights were provided from the advocate's viewpoint by Xing Keke, Director of the BLA's Young Lawyers Working Committee, and from the arbitral institution's perspective by Wu Shaoxuan, Deputy Director of CIETAC's Committee Affairs Department. All commentators unanimously recognized the mock arbitration as meticulously organized and substantively rich, providing young lawyers with valuable learning and practical training opportunities.

As a featured event of the 13th China Arbitration Week in 2025, this mock arbitration activity has not only provided young lawyers with a high-caliber platform for international arbitration practice but also further facilitated professional exchanges between the legal practitioners and arbitral institutions. Looking ahead, CIETAC will continue to dedicate itself to simulating authentic international arbitration scenarios through diverse channels, with the aim of further enhancing young lawyers' legal practice competencies and practical arbitration skills. These initiatives are designed to cultivate top-tier, interdisciplinary foreign-related legal talents who possess solid professional expertise, masterful understanding of international rules, and proficiency in handling foreign-related legal affairs, thereby contributing to the fortification of China's foreign-related legal system.
