From April 22 to 23, 2025, Conference on “The Construction of International Law Theory and Multilateral Economic Rules in a Changing Epoch” was held in Beijing. This Conference was hosted by Peking University Law School, World Trade Organization (WTO) Legal Research Center of Peking University, and International Law Institute of Peking University, and co-hosted by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, and Yingke Law Firm. Xie Changqing, Vice President of CIETAC Arbitration Court, attend the Conference and delivered the speech under the third discussion topic: "Rules, Jurisprudence, and Reform of Dispute Settlement Mechanisms in International Economic and Trade Law in Times of Turbulence" and made the closing remark.

In her speech, Vice President Xie Changqing emphasized that in the era of accelerating global transformation, advancing the rule of law in global governance has become the shared aspiration of countries around the world. She noted that international arbitration as a vital component of global governance. plays an irreplaceable role in upholding international order and balancing diverse interests. Chinese arbitration bears a dual responsibility: enhancing its influence in the field of global dispute resolution and contributing Chinese innovation and insights to global governance through pioneering arbitration models. As the leading Chinese arbitration, CIETAC has remained committed to innovation—whether by developing advanced arbitration rules, building a first-class international panel of arbitrators, integrating Eastern and Western arbitration tradition, or leveraging new technologies to enhance the efficiency of arbitration, striving to drive the innovative development of Chinese arbitration. CIETAC looks forward to collaborating with the academics and practitioners worldwide to facilitate the integration and innovation of international arbitration. She reaffirmed CIETAC’s dedication to providing high-quality arbitration practices that offer a robust empirical foundation for the development of international legal theory and the reform of multilateral rules, thereby injecting strong momentum into the creation of more equitable and rational international economic and trade order.

This Conference brought together experts and scholars from WTO, government agencies, domestic and foreign universities, as well as the judiciary, arbitrations institutions, corporations. Focusing on the theoretical and practical challenges of international law and the reform of multilateral trade system, the discussions explore concrete paths and proposals for building a new international economic and trade order and presented a high-standard and high-quality academic event for the participants.
