On April 12-13, 2025, the Center for International Investment and Commercial Arbitration ("CIICA") of Pakistan successfully held its 10th Anniversary Conference in Pakistan. The event attracted numerous professionals from government departments, arbitration institutions, and academia across multiple countries and regions, who engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics in international arbitration, garnering widespread attention in the international arbitration community. The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission ("CIETAC") was invited as a supporting institution for the event. Gu Yan, Vice President of the Arbitration Court of CIETAC, attended online and delivered a speech.
The Conference featured panel discussions on topics such as "Climate Change and International Arbitration", "Global North-South Differences Among Arbitration Institutions", and "Future Learning and Training in International Arbitration", along with training courses on international mediation and arbitration. During the event, lawyers, scholars, and legal professionals from Pakistan, China, the UK, Singapore, the UAE, and other countries shared insights and experiences from diverse perspectives, unanimously recognizing the milestone significance of CIICA's 10th anniversary and its importance in promoting and practicing institutional arbitration in Pakistan.
In his speech, Vice President Gu Yan extended warm congratulations on CIICA's achievements over the past decade, reviewed the extensive collaboration between CIETAC and CIICA in areas such as arbitrator training, exchanges on arbitration rules and case studies, and highlighted CIETAC's recent developments and efforts to advance international arbitration cooperation. He also proposed suggestions for strengthening future collaboration among arbitration institutions, with an emphasis on deeper information and resource sharing, enhanced cooperation mechanisms, and cultural exchange and mutual trust. Gu advocated for united efforts to build a rule-of-law system that fosters mutual learning and integration, thereby safeguarding the stable development of international economic and trade cooperation.
The 10th Anniversary Conference of CIICA served as a platform for in-depth exchanges among international arbitration professionals, playing a significant role in advancing the international arbitration, fostering cooperation among arbitration institutions across regions, and supporting China-Pakistan economic ties and the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
