In April 2025, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) once again demonstrated its role as a platform for cultivating foreign-related legal talents by organizing and sponsoring two top mainland Chinese teams to participate in the premier international commercial arbitration competitions—the 32nd WILLEM C. VIS International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) in Vienna, Austria, and the 22nd WILLEM C. VIS East International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis East) in Hong Kong, China. The teams showcased the professional competence and global vision of China's young legal professionals. The champion team of the 22nd CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot (CIETAC Cup)—Shanghai Jiao Tong University—competed in the 32nd Vis Moot held from April 11 to 17, 2025, in Vienna, while the runner-up team—Tsinghua University—participated in the 22nd Vis East held from March 30 to April 6, 2025, in Hong Kong.
This year's Vis Moot attracted nearly 400 teams and 1,200 arbitration experts from around the world, while Vis East brought together 159 teams and nearly 500 arbitration experts globally.
CIETAC case managers Zhang Xia, Zhang Yu, Zou Dongni, and Xie Wei led the two teams, served as moot arbitrators, and engaged in friendly exchanges with arbitration experts from around the world, sharing China's arbitration practices with the international arbitration community.

CIETAC has consistently fulfilled its mission of cultivating foreign-related legal talents. Since the launching of the CIETAC Cup in 2000, the competition has attracted over 10,000 students from more than 200 universities worldwide by introducing international case problems and simulated real arbitration scenarios. This has established a closed-loop training system of "domestic training-international competition", inspiring tens of thousands of Chinese law students to engage with international commercial arbitration and nurturing new talents for China's arbitration. As the "national team" of China's foreign-related arbitration, CIETAC will continue refining its "competition-training" model, exploring innovative approaches to legal talent development, and empowering young legal professionals to shine on the global stage, thereby contributing to the advancement of China's arbitration and foreign-related rule of law.
