On April 1, 2025, Xie Changqing, Vice President of the Arbitration Court of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), welcomed a delegation from the Law Society of Singapore led by its President Lisa Sam, accompanied by Dr. Michael Hwang, barrister and former President of the Law Society, and Chan Leng Sun, barrister and former Deputy Chairman of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre （SIAC）.During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on enhancing collaboration between the Sino-Singaporean arbitration legal community.

Vice President Xie Changqing extended a warm welcome to the delegation and reviewed CIETAC’s longstanding interaction and cooperation with Singaporean legal sector. She highlighted CIETAC’s continuous efforts in maintaining advanced arbitration rules, upholding party autonomy, cultivating a world-class panel of arbitrators, and promoting the convergence of Chinese and Western arbitration practices. She also emphasized CIETAC’s role as a platform for international legal professionals and expressed hope to strengthen cooperation with The Law Society of Singapore in promoting cutting-edge arbitration concepts and advancing arbitration’s pivotal role in international commercial dispute resolution.

Lisa Sam, President of the Law Society of Singapore, commended CIETAC’s leading position and global influence in international commercial arbitration. She briefed on the Law Society’s  basic information and recent events and expressed the hope for deeper collaboration across multiple domains with CIETAC. She noted that the Law Society could take advantage of a unique understanding of Eastern and Western legal cultures to facilitate joint efforts in advancing international arbitration practice.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges on co-organizing professional events and strengthening the training of legal talents and exchanged views on frontier issues in international arbitration practice.
