On the afternoon of December 19, 2024, Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”), led a delegation to China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (“CCPIT”) Hainan Sub-Council and had a discussion with Ning Hongwen, President of CCPIT Hainan Sub-Council.

During the discussion, Secretary General Wang Chengjie said that arbitration is a prominent part of the commercial legal services network of CCPIT, and it is necessary to give full play to the advantages of the CCPIT’s coordinated national response system,  strengthen the ties between CIETAC, CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center and CCPIT Hainan Sub-Council, and jointly promote the construction of the FTP to move forward steadily. At the same time, CIETAC should give full play to the advantages of arbitration in optimizing the business environment and boosting investment confidence in the construction of Hainan FTP, and assist the continuous development of FTP with high-quality dispute resolution services.

President Ning Hongwen expressed her warm welcome to the delegation. She fully affirmed the achievements made by CIETAC and CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center in supporting the construction of FTP in recent years, and highly praised the work of CIETAC and CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center in optimizing the rule of law environment in Hainan, perfecting the system of dispute resolution related regulations and improving the visibility of Hainan's legal services, etc. She said that the two sides should work together closely to safeguard healthy and stable economic and trade exchanges between Chinese and foreign enterprises. 

Subsequently, the two sides carried out in-depth exchanges and reached consensus on “the construction of the International Commercial Arbitration Center in Hainan FTP” “the promotion of the concept of arbitration” “the protection of the legitimate rights of enterprises to go global by arbitration” and other aspects. 

Huang Yuanyun, Director of Legal Department of CCPIT Hainan Sub-Council, Lv Yan, Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center, and relevant staff of both sides also joined the discussion.

During their stay in Hainan, Secretary General Wang Chengjie also led the delegation to an outbound law firm, and exchanged views with the relevant parties on the exchanges and cooperation in legal service industries of Hainan and Hong Kong, recognition and enforcement of awards, and the services provided by CIETAC for ad hoc arbitration.
