On the afternoon of December 20, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”) Hainan Free Trade Port (“FTP”) Arbitrators Symposium was successfully held.

During the symposium, Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CIETAC, firstly expressed his gratitude to the participating arbitrators for their long-term support and hard work to CIETAC and CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center, and said that the purpose of this Symposium for Arbitrators is to exchange information on the development of dispute resolution in Hainan, listen to the opinions of arbitrators on the development of CIETAC and CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center, and seek for the high-quality development of the cause of arbitration together. He emphasized that arbitrators are the lifeblood and career line for the development of CIETAC, and the great progress made by CIETAC cannot be separated from a high-quality arbitrator team. As an arbitrator in Hainan region, under the background of the national policy of opening up to the outside world at a high level and the construction of Hainan FTP, the arbitrator should act in accordance with the trend and take the initiative to closely combine the brand advantage and professional advantage of CIETAC with the demand of the FTP, and contribute to the power of CIETAC in the construction of the rule of law in Hainan. At the same time, whenin the process of daily handling of cases, it is necessary to strictly abide by the integrity and self-discipline, abide by the principle of independence and impartiality, and strive for diligence and responsibility, and reflect the professionalism and professionalism in the process of procedural decisions, case hearings, and the production of awards.

Lv Yan, Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center, gave an introduction to the participating arbitrators the case management of CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center in the past two years, the implementation and application of the new version of the Arbitration Rules, as well as CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center's participation in the construction of the FTP and its integration into the local development since its on-site operation.

Zhang Xiaohui, CIETAC Arbitrator, Director of the Belt and Road International Lawyers Association (“BRILA”) Haikou Center,  Jiang Dan, CIETAC Arbitrator, President of Hainan Provincial Mediation Association,  Wang Longkui, Vice President of Hainan Lawyers' Association,  Hu Zhen, Director of Arbitration and Mediation Committee of Hainan Lawyers Association, and Xiao Zhaoqun, Director of Intellectual Property Right Expert Committee of Hainan Lawyers' Association, attended in the Symposium as representatives of the arbitrators. In the representative speech session, the five arbitrators focused on the improvement of the diversified dispute resolution mechanism, the innovative thinking and development path of arbitration, how arbitration can better help the construction of Hainan FTP, how to improve the quality of arbitrators and the level of specialization professionalism and other aspects of the exchanges and discussions, and combined with the characteristics of the region for the development of the CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center to provide valuable advice and suggestions. Participating arbitrators unanimously agreed that a high-level and open Hainan FTP requires the in-depth participation and protection of international first-class arbitration institutions represented by CIETAC, and expected that CIETAC and CIETAC Hainan Arbitration Center can play a greater leading role in the construction of rule of law in Hainan FTP.
