On October 17, 2024, “Foreign Legal Risk Prevention and Foreign Trade Practice Training” was successfully held in Yantai, China, organized by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Shandong Sub-commission (“CIETAC Shandong Sub-commission”), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Shandong Provincial Committee,  and CCPIT Yantai Council.

Zhang Dan, Member of the Party Group and Vice President of CCPIT Yantai Council, presided over the event. Xie Changqing, Vice President of the Arbitration Court of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”) and Secretary General of CIETAC Shandong Sub-Commission, and Wei Feng, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of CCPIT Shandong Provincial Committee, attended the event and delivered speeches. Xie Changqing introduced that in the current complex and changing global economic environment, enterprises are facing an increasing number of foreign-related legal risks, therefore, strengthening risk prevention and enhancing dispute resolution capabilities have become an inevitable requirement for sustainable development of enterprises. CIETAC has core advantages in arbitration services, including its independence, impartiality, high efficiency, extensive international network, and diversified composition of arbitrators, which enable CIETAC to effectively deal with complex commercial disputes and provide a solid foundation for fair adjudication of transnational cases. Through providing professional legal services, CIETAC and CIEATC Shandong Sub-Commission can support enterprises to protect their legitimate rights and interests more effectively, and then promote enterprises in international economic and trade activities to move forward steadily.

Wei Feng said that at present, the world economic recovery is weak, external demand is sluggish, geopolitical conflicts and protectionism have intensified, global economic and trade frictions and conflicts are still at a high level, and it is particularly important to continue to do a good job in CCPIT’s commercial legal services work around the needs and expectations of enterprises. CCPIT should continue to improve its professional capacity and service quality, help enterprises grasp opportunities and meet challenges in the wave of globalization, achieve sustainable development, and make positive contributions to the recovery and growth of the global economy.

Cui Qiang systematically analyzed the legal risks in the contracting and performance process by combining actual cases around four aspects: counterparty and subject risks, key terms and performance risks, evidence collection and preservation, and litigation and arbitration, emphasizing the importance of dispute resolution clauses in reducing uncertainty and improving cross-border execution efficiency, providing participants with a comprehensive international trade risk management framework, and helping enterprises to deal with legal challenges more confidently in the global market and help enterprises to deal with legal challenges more confidently.

Zhan Hui provided an in-depth introduction to the core value of intellectual property in international trade and its licensing models, emphasizing the efficiency and confidentiality of resolving intellectual property disputes through arbitration. He helped enterprises better understand strategies to maximize the value of IPRs in international trade and provided forward-looking guidance to deal with potential IPR challenges in globalized competition.

At the training site, experts interacted face-to-face with enterprises. They gave authoritative answers and professional guidance to the questions raised by enterprises, with a warm atmosphere at the site. Several responsible personnel of enterprises said that the training provided participants with valuable learning opportunities, promoted experience sharing and wisdom collision among peers in the industry, and was a practical measure to help enterprises improve the level of foreign-related legal risk prevention and control and dispute resolution.

The event successfully attracted more than 150 representatives from the arbitration, legal and business communities in and outside Shandong province, which not only provided a high-quality learning and exchange platform for the participants, but also strengthened the links within the industry and promoted cross-field cooperation, and was a complete success.

During the event, CIETAC, CIETAC Shandong Sub-Commission and CCPIT Shandong Province Committee and went to Zhifu District and Huang Bohai Sea New District to visit the research enterprise.
