On October 28th, Dr. Guy Block, Arbitrator of CIETAC, ICSID Arbitrator, and Partner of Janson, visited CIETAC, and Gu Yan, Vice President of CIETAC Court of Arbitration received the visit and had a discussion and exchange.
During the discussion, Vice President Gu Yan expressed his gratitude to Dr. Guy Block for his long-term attention and support to the work of CIETAC, and briefly introduced the work and the latest development of CIETAC in commercial and investment arbitration. He said that there are now 1881 arbitrators from 145 countries and regions, among which 591 are foreign arbitrators, and CIETAC has always attached great importance to actively playing the role of foreign arbitrators in the hearing of cases, professional seminars, international exchanges, and cooperation, etc., so as to jointly practice the spirit and mission of CIETAC arbitrators. Shortly after the meeting and discussion with Dr. Block in Belgium during the delegation’s visit to Europe in July this year, Dr. Block visited CIETAC in Beijing, reflecting the close communication and cooperation between CIETAC and foreign arbitrators.
Dr. Guy Block briefly introduced his practice in international arbitration in recent years and particularly shared his experience and advice on investment arbitration. He expressed his great honor to become an arbitrator of CIETAC and hoped to make more contributions to promoting the development of international investment arbitration in China and talent cultivation.
After the symposium, CIETAC also held an exchange session with the theme “Developments in Investor-State Dispute Settlement - The Protection of Chinese Overseas Investment”. Dr. Guy Block introduced the latest development of investment dispute settlement in light of investment arbitration cases involving Chinese investors, emphasized the importance of learning and understanding investment arbitration, and had interactive exchanges with the attending secretaries.
Lu Fei, Director of the Business Development Division, Yang Fan, Director of the Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution Division, and Su Sa, Deputy Director of the Arbitration Institute, accompanied the participants in the seminar and exchanges.
