On November 18, 2024, Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”), received Mr. Abdulla Albasha Alnoaimi, Commercial Counselor of the United Arab Emirates (“UAE”) Embassy to the People's Republic of China, and his delegation in Beijing. The two sides discussed the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation in the field of rule of law in commercial arbitration between China and the UAE and the sustainable and healthy development of China-Arab economic and trade exchanges.
Secretary General Wang Chengjie firstly welcomed the visit of the Commercial Counselor and his delegation. He pointed out that in recent years, China-Arab economic and trade exchanges have been developing rapidly, the total amount of bilateral trade and investment has been growing continuously, and the resulting cross-border commercial disputes have also inevitably. Therefore, it is particularly important to utilize the role of arbitration in resolving cross-border commercial disputes. As the earliest foreign-related arbitration institution established in China, CIETAC has rich practical experience in the field of international arbitration, possesses international leading arbitration rules and arbitrators, which provide rich and diversified multi-disciplinary dispute resolution services. Moreover the credibility of its awards is widely recognized in the world. In the future, it is hoped that with the support of the Embassy of UAE in China, CIETAC will further develop cooperation with the UAE side through the cooperation in organizing activities, enhancing information exchange, and carrying out the mutual recommendation of arbitrators, so as to build a regional international arbitration “ecosystem”.
Mr. Abdulla Albasha Alnoaimi expressed his gratitude for the reception of CIETAC and praised the achievements made by CIETAC in its development over the years. He pointed out that this year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the UAE. Over the years, the pragmatic cooperation in the field of economy and trade between the two countries has been going deeper and more practical, while arbitration, as an internationally accepted mechanism of cross-border dispute resolution, is playing an important role in escorting the economic and trade development of the two countries. He hoped to further develop multi-disciplinary and multi-level cooperation with CIETAC in resolving cross-border commercial disputes, so as to promote the sustained and healthy development of China-Arab economic and trade exchanges.
The two sides also exchanged views on the training of commercial arbitration talents, as well as cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and the UAE arbitration institutions. Further more, the two sides look forward to further enriching the form and content of cooperation in the field of commercial arbitration to better solve the legal problems of enterprises of the two countries, and to make positive contributions to the development of China-Arab economic and trade exchanges.
