On December 3, 2021, Xie Changqing, Vice President of the Arbitration Court of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (hereinafter "CIETAC"), was invited to attend and address the 2021 LexisNexis Legal Summit. The Summit is hosted by LexisNexis and joint instructed by CIETAC, the China Association for Promoting UN Procurement  and the Commercial Legal Service Center of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Around 30 partners from law firms, attorneys from leading corporate and other authoritative legal and compliance experts gathered to discuss on dispute resolution and compliance in the digital economy, focusing on the key legal issues and problems and the cutting-edge insights into global legal practice.

In the opening session, Vice President Xie Changqing noted that compliance is the core of the rule of law inside the company and an important symbol of modernization in respect of corporate governance and governance capacity. Arbitration is an indispensable and important part of the national governance system and the construction of the rule of law, and the "barometer" for observing the compliance of enterprises. In the new era, it is imperative to strengthen the institution administration, contract management and risk management of enterprises in the spirit of rule of law. Meanwhile, in the management of enterprises under the rule of law and complying with regulations, it is necessary to take precautions, attach importance to the conclusion and negotiation of arbitration clauses in contracts, understand the rules and practice of international arbitration, and improve the ability to resolve disputes. Since its establishment in 1956, CIETAC has always undertaken its duty and mission to resolve economic and trade disputes with high-quality and efficiency, enhance the credibility of arbitration, assist enterprises in their compliance and rule of law development, and promote the process of rule of law in China. In the future, CIETAC will continue to rely on the expertise of its arbitrator team, and strive to provide quality and efficient legal arbitration-related services for market players to better integrate into domestic and international economic and trade activities. Wei Ziping, Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Supervision and Coordination of CIETAC, then delivered a keynote speech at the ADR sub-forum on the topic of "Interpretation of New Arbitration Rules and Sharing of Practical Issues and Difficulties". Deputy Commissioner Wei Ziping briefed on the Revision of the Arbitration Law of the People's Republic of China, and further introduced and compared the arbitrability matters, the jurisdiction of arbitral tribunals, the rules for appointing the presiding arbitrator and other issues from the perspectives of the current provisions of the Arbitration Law, the revisions to the Draft for Comment and the practice of CIETAC.

Nearly 150 outstanding practitioners attended the meeting to explore on the issue of compliance.
