The launching ceremony of “CIETAC Cup Alumni Association” (CCAA) and opening ceremony of the 19th CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot were successfully held online on November 28, 2021. Over 25,000 people streamed on the live broadcast.
Since its establishment in 2000, the CIETAC Cup has always nursed the aspiration of cultivating talents with capacity for the practice of international arbitration and has nurtured plenty of outstanding practitioners with global perspective, practical experience and first-class fluency in English. The 19th CIETAC Cup continued to attract international legal talents. The sign up for the competition was in full swing, including over 700 participants from 75 teams and reaching a record-high number. For the first time, the CIETAC Cup attracted colleges and universities from the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the Republic of Uzbekistan and other countries, highlighting the internationalization of the competition. The CIETAC Cup not only asserts its mission and function of developing international legal culture, but also provides opportunities for the communication among domestic and foreign legal talents.

Wang Chengjie, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of CIETAC, officially launched the “CIETAC Cup Alumni Association” and announced the opening of the 19th CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot at the ceremony. Secretary-General Wang Chengjie addressed that CIETAC has been actively responding to General-Secretary Xi Jinping's call for “respecting, seeking and educating talents” in the new era, focusing on the training of young legal talents, and has nurtured over 5,000 young arbitrators. It is the time to establish a platform for the unity and interconnection of high-quality arbitration practitioners. The launch of the CCAA on the occasion of the 19th CIETAC Cup aimed to cultivate inter-disciplinary legal talents with global perspective, knowledge on international practice, and profound understanding of foreign related laws, who are able to participate in international cooperation and competition. The association consists of three sub-committees: Development and Public Relation Sub-committee, Academic and Research Sub-committee, and Membership and Administration Sub-committee. These sub-committees will serve all the competitors, coaches, arbitrators and other kinds of participants in the CIETAC Cup, promoting communication and cooperation. Scholars and experts will also be invited to support the daily activities.

The members of sub-committees shared their memories with the CIETAC Cup and affirmed the significance of the CCAA for the competitors and arbitrators. The CIETAC Cup bears all the unforgettable memory and hard work of countless competitors and arbitrators. Students gathered here with enthusiasm for arbitration and formed deep friendships. The arbitrators exchanged professional opinions with each other, promoted the techniques of conducting the hearing and developed the vision. Thanks to the share of experience from the Vice President and members of the sub-committees, we see that the CCAA is home for arbitration professionals with common goals to promote friendships and pursue their dreams. The members can, out of the pursuit of professionalism and passion for arbitration, communicate with each other through the platform, acquire answers to questions about professional knowledge and career planning, promote their abilities to facilitate the development in international arbitration.
