On the afternoon of 8 December,2020, the Second Seminar of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People's Court and Appointment Ceremony of International Commercial Experts were held simultaneously online and offline by the Supreme People's Court. Zhou Qiang, President and Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, attended the meeting and awarded the Letter of Appointment to the newly appointed expert committee members and delivered a speech. Yang Wanming, Vice President of the Supreme People's Court and the Grand Justice of the Second Rank, presided over the event and read out the Decision of the Supreme People's Court on The Appointment of the Second Group of Expert members of the International Commercial Expert Committee. Lu Pengqi,Vice President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Luo Zhaohui, Vice Foreign Minister, Li Chenggang, Assistant Minister of Commerce and other officials attended and addressed the meeting. Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CIETAC was invited to attend the meeting.
Lu Pengqi, Vice President of the CCPIT, said in his speech that the International Commercial Expert Committee provides new guarantee and new experience for the stable and long-term implementation of the Belt and Road initiative, which has become a practical example. With the joining of more expert members, the International Commercial Expert Committee will add new impetus to the new pattern of development.
Due to the changes of international environment, international commercial disputes will become more complicated and the dispute resolution mechanism and rules will enter a period of adjustment. The Supreme People's Court, with its vision and insight, provides effective judicial support for the high-quality development of arbitration in China.
He pointed out that in the context of the law-based governance of the country, dispute resolution institutions should adhere to the purpose of service, settle disputes in a fair, efficient and low-cost manner, attach importance to the role of mediation and dispute resolution prevention in advance. The dispute resolution institutions should strengthen exchanges and cooperation to form an overall joint force and overall credibility.
He pointed out that as a national trade promotion intuition, CCPIT is willing to strengthen cooperation with domestic and foreign legal practitioners, promote the reform and improvement of dispute resolution mechanism and promote economic prosperity and development.

The Supreme People's Court founded the International Commercial Expert Committee in August 2018, and appointed the first group of 31 experts. This time, 24 experts from 12 countries were newly appointed. So far, the International Commercial Expert Committee has expanded to 55 experts from 25 countries.
The topic of Seminar is "New Development of International Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Related Issues in International Law", the attendees discussed topics such as "Development of International Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanism: New Situation and New Challenges" and "Research and Application of International Law Related Issues in the Post-Pandemic Era". Some Chinese and foreign experts of the International Commercial Expert Committee participated online. Leaders of relevant departments of the Supreme People's Court and judges of International Commercial Courts attended the event.
