On December 17, 2020, the delegation led by Wang Chengjie, the Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC visited Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice and had an in-depth exchange of views with Wang Xie, deputy director-general of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice, and his colleagues.
During their discussion, Wang Chengjie briefed the 60 years’ history of CIETAC and the various innovative development and explorations carried out by CIETAC on dispute resolution mechanism. Based on specific statistics, he illustrated CIETAC’s leading position in international arbitration community in terms of its caseload, the amount in dispute and the number of countries involved in its cases, showing the advantages of CIETAC in internationalization and professionalism in the field of foreign-related dispute resolution. Wang pointed out that the CIETAC Shanghai Sub-commission has been playing an important role in the construction of business environment under the rule of law in Shanghai. Facing the new opportunity to of Shanghai’s efforts to build the Asia-pacific international arbitration center in Shanghai, CIETAC and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice should strengthen collaboration and promote exchanges with other in order to further enhance the legal environment for foreign-related business in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta.
Deputy Director-General Wang Xie extended his welcome to the delegation of WANG Chengjie and expressed his appreciation for CIETAC’s achievements. He introduced the work on the construction of Shanghai's Asia-pacific international arbitration center, especially the achievements made, the problems discovered and the challenges faced by the arbitration institutions in the system reform in Shanghai. He mentioned that the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice had made active efforts in Shanghai’s construction of the Asia-pacific international arbitration center in accordance with the principle of high-level opening up and development. He also agreed to enhance exchanges with CIETAC in the future on the latter’s role as a world-renowned dispute resolution institution in Shanghai’s construction of the Asia-pacific international arbitration center.
Ms. Jiao Yani, the Secretary-General of CIETAC Shanghai Sub-commission, Ms. Lu Fei, the Deputy Director of Business Development Division of CIETAC, and relevant directors of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice participated in the meeting.
