On the afternoon of 23 November 2019, Wang Chengjie, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of CIETAC, welcomed Dennis Pong, chairman of Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association (VMAA) and his delegation in Beijing. They exchanged views on topics including the integration of various dispute resolution mechanisms between China and Canada and the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. 

During the talks, Wang firstly briefed about the history and development of CIETAC, the characteristics and advantages of CIETAC arbitration, and the cases related to Canadian parties accepted by CIETAC. He also introduced the efforts made by CIETAC in promoting the practice of combination of arbitration with mediation in international community. Wang gave a detailed introduction about the Chinese Arbitration Week which was held lately, especially focusing on the Belt and Road Arbitration Institutions Roundtable Forum, and the Beijing Consensus of Belt and Road Arbitration Institutions jointly released by the participating international arbitration institutions which further strengthens  the construction of international arbitration service for Belt and Road countries.

Chairman Pong thanked Secretary General Wang for taking the time to meet with him during the CIETAC Cup, and expressed his hope that more arbitrators of VMAA could serve as judges in the CIETAC Cup, so as to help cultivating international arbitration professionals. In 2017, CIETAC established the North American Arbitration Center in Vancouver. He hoped that besides holding its own events, CIETAC would also jointly hold activities with universities and other arbitration institutions in Vancouver.
