CHINA INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND TRADE ARBITRATION COMMISSION

On 24 November 2018, co-hosted by the Chinese Society of International Law, the National High-end Think Tank Wuhan University Institute of International Law and the Legal Department of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), the 3rd East Lake International Law Forum was held in Wuhan themed on International Investment Trade Order: Challenge and Reconstruction. Leaders including Lu Pengqi, Vice Chairman of CCPIT and CIETAC, Han Jin, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Wuhan University, Huang Jin, President of China Society of International Law and China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), and Li Qunxing, Vice President of Hubei Higher People’s Court, attended and addressed the forum. Huang Huikang, former Malaysian Ambassador, Fan Hengshan, former Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission, Liu Jipeng, Dean of CUPL Business School, and Liu Chao, Vice Minister of Legal Affairs Department of CCPIT delivered keynote speeches respectively.

In his speech, Lu Pengqi pointed out that this forum is a cooperation work between the business and legal community to establish a fairer and more reasonable platform for international economic through studies and research on legal issues of risk prevention, compliance review and dispute resolution in international investment and trade. CCPIT is willing to establish the long-term legal exchange and cooperation mechanism with the international economic and trade legal community, build a legal risk prevention and response mechanism for companies, and participate in the establishment of the formulation and promotion of international rules.

Li Hu, Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC, attended the meeting upon invitation and delivered a speech on the topic of “International Investment Trade Order and Internationalization of Chinese Arbitration” in the third unit “International Investment and Trade Dispute Resolution”. Li Hu pointed out that internationalization of Chinese arbitration is an inevitable requirement in light of the indispensable role played by international arbitration in the international investment and trade order and China’s active participation in global economic governance to promote the reform and improvement of the international investment and trade order. He explored the path of the internationalization of Chinese arbitration, the favorable conditions and shortcomings we have, and the direction of our efforts, and said that CIETAC is willing to join hands with domestic arbitration and legal community to "work together and create a better future."

Xiao Yongping, Director of Wuhan University Institute of International Law, and Zheng Zhaohui, Deputy Director of the Institute, presided over the opening and closing ceremonies respectively. Over 300 representatives from domestic legal community and dispute resolution institutions attended the forum.
