CIETAC's sponsorship of mooting continues
It is CIETAC's continued effort to sponsor the two winning teams of the CIETAC Cup Commercial Arbitration Moot to Vienna and Hong Kong respectively. In April 2011, CIETAC offered sponsorships to Tsinghua University and Remin Univeristy for the Vis Moot. Together with over 500 arbitrators and legal practitioners, there were more than 2000 students, from 260 universities and 60 countries and regions, including China, USA, Australia and Japan, that participated in the Vis Moot in Vienna and the Vis Moot (East) in Hong Kong.
The Vis Moot has been in existence since 1993, and continues to grow in size and prestige, having a strong hold on law schools and legal field worldwide. This mooting competition also serves as a platform for building friendships among students from different legal systems, and for promoting alternative dispute resolution in international trading. CIETAC has selected and sent winning teams of CIETAC Cup to the Vis Moot in Vienna since 2001 and to the Vis Moot (East) Hong Kong since 2005.
Carrying the name of CIETAC, CIETAC Cup Commercial Arbitration Moot provides Chinese students an opportunity of warm-up exercises to compete internationally. This effort, now known for a decade, is continuing to grow in popularity at home, gaining a concrete number of participants from law schools all over China. Some highly influenced schools are now adding commercial arbitration courses to their curriculums.
The use of CIETAC's Rules in the next Vis Moot competition in 2012 signifies CIETAC's unswerving effort to promote international commercial arbitration worldwide.
